Girls Soccer Claims Regional Championship

2013 GBS Girls Soccer Team
(May 19, 2013) The 5th-seeded Titans took on 13th-seeded Palatine in Friday afternoon's IHSA Regional Final in Gurnee, with the Pirates looking for their second big upset win in a row. The Titans broke strong, peppering the Pirate net several times in the game's regional champs opening minutes, but it was Palatine that posted the first goal ten minutes in. Clearly upset by the sudden turn of events, senior April Cronin scored just two minutes later with a header of senior Carolyn Nash's corner. Fourteen minutes later, Cronin netted her fifth goal of the postseason off an assist from sophomore Tami ErIich to give the Titans the lead they would not relinquish, as keeper Emma Sailer stuffed two late, dangerous Pirate efforts. Next up: Sectional top-seed Buffalo Grove on Tuesday afternoon in Mundelein.

BOOSTER NEWS

Come Support MAXTRAVAGANZA

(May 19,2013)  A few years ago the Max Schewitz Foundation began providing free EKG testing to high school students. Our students have been the beneficiaries of this testing ever since (our students will be tested this year on October 23.) To fund this enormous effort, the Foundation holds an annual fundraiser. Mary Campobasso has usually been the coordinator from the Booster Club perspective in terms of getting volunteers to work the event or donate to the event, and we’ve appreciated the community’s support.

This year’s MAXTRAVAGANZA fundraiser is coming up on June 22 at Lake Forest Sportscars from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Based on a generous donation to the Foundation from the Parent’s Association, we don’t need volunteers or contributions this year. Instead, we simply are looking for a few good folks who would like to visibly show Glenbrook South’s support for the Foundation by using the 16 tickets we have for this wonderful event.

If you would like to attend, please email me at dalesailer@gmail.com. Again, there is no cost to attend as the tickets are already paid for. The tickets are, in essence, first come first served.
