GBS Artificial Turf Project

Glenbrook School District 225 recently approved partial funding for an upgrade of the stadium playing surfaces at Glenbrook South and Glenbrook North through the installation of artificial turf. This is a significant facility upgrade that will benefit many in our community for a wide range of reasons.

• Unlike a turf field, a sod field can’t be used as often due to weather and field conditions. By installing turf, we have a versatile field that our kids can use safely, year round with little maintenance. It is anticipated that field use will soon increase from 4% of allowable time to 100%, as the turf field will be used by Physical Education students, additional interscholastic athletes, marching band and other community members. Today, approximately 130 students utilize the stadium field; come September it can be used by 3500 people!

• Further, by relying less on the other natural grass practice fields, their condition will also improve by allowing them longer time to recover from activity.

• Turf creates an opportunity to host regional athletic championships, concerts and multi-cultural events.

• Turf is safer! Numerous studies have concluded that a turf field is more safe than conventional grass fields.

While the cost of artificial turf is comparable to natural grass due to reduced maintenance costs, it has a higher initial outlay. The GBS Titan Booster Club invites you to support this effort through membership and through contributions so our student athletes can learn, compete and excel at the highest level.
